Privacy Policy - ATPI Chrome Extension

Overview

ATPI - AT Protocol URL Previewer ("the Extension") is a browser extension that detects and previews AT Protocol URLs (at://) on web pages. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles information.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data.

The Extension:

• Does NOT collect personally identifiable information
• Does NOT track your browsing history
• Does NOT store your personal information
• Does NOT use analytics or telemetry
• Does NOT sell or transfer any data to third parties

How the Extension Works

On-Demand Processing

The Extension only activates when you hover over an AT Protocol URL. It then:

1. Resolves the AT Protocol identifier to find the data location
2. Fetches the JSON data from the appropriate server
3. Displays it in a temporary overlay
4. Discards the data when you move your mouse away

Local Storage

The Extension stores only:

User Preferences: Your choice between "local mode" and "remote mode"

Debug Setting: Whether debug mode is enabled or disabled

Temporary Cache: Brief caching of resolved handles and DIDs (5 minutes)

This data is stored locally in your browser and never transmitted elsewhere.

Network Requests

When you hover over an at:// URL, the Extension makes requests to:

*.bsky.network    # AT Protocol Services  
plc.directory     # PLC Directory - DID resolution
atpi.at          # ATPI Service - Remote mode proxy
dns.google.com   # DNS Services - Handle verification
cloudflare-dns.com # DNS Services - Handle verification
          

These requests are made only when you actively hover over an AT Protocol URL.

Permissions Usage

Storage Permission

Used exclusively to save your preferences locally in your browser.

ActiveTab Permission

Allows the Extension to detect AT Protocol URLs only on the page you're currently viewing.

Host Permissions

Required to communicate with AT Protocol infrastructure to resolve and fetch data.

Data Security

• All network requests use HTTPS encryption
• No data is stored beyond temporary caching
• No cookies or tracking mechanisms are used
• No third-party services or analytics are integrated

User Control

You can:

• Choose between local mode (direct connections) or remote mode (via proxy)
• Clear the cache at any time through the Extension popup
• Enable/disable debug mode for troubleshooting
• Uninstall the Extension at any time to remove all stored preferences

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 years of age.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to the Extension. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
